Vans presents the worldwide release of Tan Madonna, the latest brainchild from creative visionary Alex Knost. The avant-garde, noir-esque film premiered to a packed audience inside an 8,000-square-foot warehouse in Costa Mesa, Calif., during the Vans US Open of Surfing in July, and is now available to watch on Vans’ YouTube channel. Always pushing the boundaries – and often times existing well outside of them - Alex’s latest film is a reflection of his off-beat take on not only surfing, but on creative expression as a whole.
The Tan Madonna premiere served as an eclectic gathering for many of surfing’s elite, as well as artists and other well-known creatives in the space and outside of it. The film is set to music composed by none other than Alex and Lee Ann Curren, and features the likes of Harry Bryant, Mikey February and Karina Rozunko, among others.
A part of the Vans family since 2005, Alex is most commonly recognized for his style, both in and out of the water. From making art and collaborating with fashion labels, to creating music with his band, Tomorrow’s Tulips, and handcrafting his own boards through his personal label, he has a deep influence that extends well beyond surfing.
